Teníamos ganas de visitar La Gloria desde que lo vimos en el siempre genial blog de David Moralejo. Este bar y restaurante, ubicado justo al lado del In Situ, es una de las recientes incorporaciones al barrio de TriBall (o “el sur de Malasaña”). Nos encanta pasear por sus calles los fines de semana durante el día, cuando se siente un pulso tan distinto al que hay por la noche… por la mañana se llena de gente que vive por allí, de lo más dispar y destilando ideas.
El bar La Gloria lleva abierto algo más de tres meses y aunque no es muy grande aún es fácil conseguir sitio, todavía no se ha puesto de moda, aunque poco falta porque lo tiene todo: es bueno, es bonito, y la relación calidad-precio es increíble. Nos gusta que la cocina esté siempre abierta y poder comer o cenar algo a cualquier hora del día, y nos encanta lo acogedor que resulta el local, con sus mesas y sillas de madera antiguas y modernas, juntas pero no revueltas, el suelo de damero y los ventanales que dejan pasar luz a raudales. Pero sobre todo nos encanta la comida, que sin duda es lo mejor de La Gloria, y eso es lo que importa.
La carta se compone de platos de cocina española para compartir, sencillos pero bien elaborados, siguiendo la tradición con un toque moderno. De lo que probamos lo que más nos gustó fue el salmorejo (espectacular), las patatas al cabrales, la ensalada de tomate y melva, y las croquetas, que les salen bordadas. Nos costó unos 15€ por persona, compartiendo varios platos y acompañando con unas copitas de vino. Tenemos pendiente volver un domingo para probar su paella. El ambiente es familiar, informal y amable (y atención a los que tenéis perro: también es “dog-friendly“), sin mucho ruido y con buena música de fondo, de esos sitios donde te apetece estar durante horas… ¿Qué más se puede pedir? Aquí se está, literalmente, en la gloria.
La Gloria está en la calle Valverde 42, Madrid. Metros Chueca (L5), Tribunal (L1 y L10), y Gran Vía (L1 y L5). Horario: Martes a Jueves de 13:00 – 16:30 y 19:00 – 00:30, viernes y sábado de 13:00 – 02:30 y domingo de 12:30 – 00:30. We wanted to visit La Gloria since we read about it in David Moralejo’s great blog. This bar and restaurant, located right next to In Situ, in the triBall area, is one of the recent additions to the neighborhood. We love walking through these streets on weekends during the day… in the morning everybody is on the street and the vibe is really nice. La Gloria has been open just for three months and it is still possible to get a table without waiting for hours, as usually happens in the area. We love the fact that there’s a permanently open kitchen, and it is possible to have lunch or dinner anytime. And we love the air, so warm and welcoming, with its wooden tables and chairs both vintage and new, its checkerboard floor and large windows that let in plenty of sunlight. And besides all this we really love the food, and that’s what matters.
The menu is based in Spanish dishes to share (tapas), simple but very well prepared, following traditional recipes with a modern twist. What we liked the most was the salmorejo (something spectacular), fries with Cabrales cheese, the tomato and mackerel salad, and great homemade croquetas. We paid around 15€ each, sharing a few tapas and drinking some good wine. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed (and also dog-friendly): pretty quiet with a great soundtrack, this is one of those places where you fancy spending hours. Definitely a great place. What else could we ask for?
